Despite the growing prevalence and media attention of revenge pornography (i.e., non-consensual dissemination of intimate images), little is known about the demographic, attitudinal, or personality traits, related to the propensity to engage in revenge pornography perpetration. In this study, a sample of 816 young adults (average age M = 20.4, SD = 4.1) was recruited to complete a series of surveys and questionnaires. First, we gauged the prevalence of revenge porn proclivity, and found that approximately 1 in 2 of the participants in our sample endorsed at least partial feelings of revenge porn proclivity. More alarmingly, approximately three quarters endorsed feelings of revenge porn enjoyment, and practically everyone (> 98%) of revenge porn approval. Using binomial logistic regression, we found that female participants, those with higher scores in sexual entitlement, sadism, and higher endorsement of Image-based sexual abuse myths, as well as those with a history of revenge porn perpetration were more likely to endorse feelings of revenge porn proclivity. These results suggest that perpetrators of revenge porn may have distinct personality traits.
