The research will analyze the theoretical underpinnings of the effects doctrine in international law and how it has been applied thus far in cases involving state jurisdiction over cross-border digital trade and online activity. It will explore how the application of the effects doctrine has impacted internet governance, with a view to adjusting its parameters in order ensure an adequate balance between States' regulatory interests and their stated goal of
preserving the global nature of the internet.
